The presidential candidates are not the only ones to make the Web the new place of debate and collection of citizen proposals. To hit high on this last school before the elections, the sociologist Philippe Meirieu released today in library a new book on the school, fruit of several months of consultations on the canvas.
The book, "aimed both at Faculty policies, associations, parents of students", leading a battery of urgent reforms, intended to feed the future electoral debate in spring 2007. A "anti-pamphlet", for, he says, decide with the catastrophic and nostalgic discourse on the school, in vogue on the stalls of the booksellers. "Should twist the coup once and for all in our ongoing systematic denigration temptations (...)". "Open rather important sites", launches the pedagogue, which avoids neither critics nor subjects sensitive single College, vocational training, orientation, academic failure.

Master the language
Once is not custom, Philippe Meirieu shares with Gilles de Robien the belief that it is to the mastery of the language that must first turn the efforts. "School should wonder about its responsibilities," he admits, as it did not "promoted requiring language use". The author stands however the Minister by his tenacious advocacy for pedagogy, considers otherwise threatened, at least make. "Bringing children into the school does not; "he must accompany each way tailored so that it can gain access to knowledge," he insists.
How to open the painful problem of the democratization of the system, by denouncing the consumerism of the parents and "school continents", separating one side institutions of excellence, on the other channels of relegation. "There is deficit of Republican unity when 20,000 college students, yet compelled to compulsory schooling, drop out each year", he said.
To rebuild a "Republican" school, the sociologist advocated the development of the relationship (between school and College), but also a "fair" orientation to courses of "equal dignity" reintroduce a little equality. " "It is as if there was no professional sector", said Philippe Meirieu, which advocates the rehabilitation of technical education at the College. A means of diversifying the single college without breaking what the author considers as one of its greatest benefits, the heterogeneity of classes.
Delete the PTA
Conversely, the common base of knowledge and skills, major reform of this re-entry, does little with his eyes. As for the rest of the system, it has much to do to improve. "We are liberal on the objectives and authoritarian ways, while we should be much more firm purposes and bet on the accountability of the actors to act in the best", says the author, which among other things, advocates the removal of the priority areas of education and a school most open (to parents...).
Finally, of course waited in the field of the training of teachers, he has long led the IUFM de Lyon , the author is replete with proposals: lengthening of training for two years, pre-recruitment, gateways for BTS and IUT students. In short, he invites to "imagine the school without taboo". Large challenge for the candidates in the Elysee Palace.
